Challenge

Building the official Sport Club Recife app meant much more than designing an interface for football fans. The challenge was to transform a product vision into a scalable digital ecosystem by balancing product strategy, experience architecture, and visual execution.

The project needed to:

  • Define the experience of a product still in its early stages by structuring the MVP and the fan journey.

  • Design dozens of new interfaces for different use cases while maintaining consistency across the product.

  • Bring together experiences such as live matches, news, league standings, ticketing, the club store, and raffles into a single ecosystem.

  • Handle real-time sports data that changes continuously throughout a match.

  • Create a reusable foundation for future white-label implementations across other football clubs.

This required going beyond designing individual screens or isolated user flows.

The goal was to establish a product foundation that could evolve over time while delivering a consistent experience for both users and business stakeholders.

Trade-offs & Constraints

The existing Design System didn't include components for football products.

A completely new component library had to be created, not only for Sport Recife, but with future clients in mind.

  • Match card

  • League table

  • Match event timeline

  • Live scoreboard

The architecture was designed to separate structure from visual identity.

This made it possible to reuse components across different clubs without relying on specific colours, crests, or brand proportions.

Sport Recife's highly saturated visual identity served as a stress test for the architecture.

The premise was simple: if the system worked for the most demanding scenario, adapting it to more neutral brands would be significantly easier.

Process

Trade-offs & Constraints

Before designing interfaces, I structured the application around the primary fan journeys and the behavior of real-time match data.

The product was organized into independent modules, each representing a specific experience:

  • Live Match

  • Match History

  • League Standings & Competitions

  • News

  • Tickets

  • Club Store

  • Raffles

Although each module served a different purpose, they shared the same navigation patterns, interaction principles, and visual hierarchy, creating a cohesive experience throughout the application.

Because football is a highly dynamic environment, every interface was designed for real-world conditions, considering changing match states, live updates, and incomplete or delayed data.

Football matches aren't static: they're a continuous flow of transitions.

  • Goals

  • Cards

  • Substitutions

  • Score changes

  • Match status updates

all require different levels of priority and visual emphasis for fans.

Instead of designing individual treatments for every event, I created a flexible system that adapts to the different states of a live match.

Result: a consistent and scalable live experience that accommodates new scenarios without increasing interface complexity.

Impact: even during the most intense moments, information remains clear, prioritised, and easy to understand.

Learnings and Product Impact

This project demonstrated that building a B2B SportsTech product goes far beyond designing interfaces: it requires creating a foundation capable of evolving alongside both the product and the company's growth strategy.

The main takeaways were:

  • Reusable components accelerate development while creating a scalable foundation for future white-label implementations.

  • Organizing the product into independent modules makes it possible to design dozens of interfaces while maintaining consistency across different user journeys.

  • Understanding data architecture is essential for building resilient experiences in products powered by real-time information.

  • In B2B platforms, Product Design decisions directly influence the product's technical, operational, and commercial scalability.
